Legislative Update
Good morning,
This week is our legislative break, so we have no official business at the House. Therefore, I took advantage of the extra time at home to meet with folks in district. We reconvene in St. Paul on Monday the 21st and begin our mad dash to the finish line in May. I will update you on budget negotiations and other business when we are back, but for now I am happy to share what I did in district this week.
Federated Insurance 121st Annual Shareholders Meeting
Federated Insurance is a key pillar of the Owatonna, Mankato, and Minnesota landscape. I enjoyed the opportunity to attend their 121st Annual Shareholders meeting this week while we are on our legislative break. Federated Insurance stands out in our area as a great supporter of many programs and continues to invest in our community while growing and serving their clients every day!
Just a couple of the local community members joining me at the Shareholders meeting include:
Left to Right: Me, Owatonna Police Chief Jeff Mundale, and MN Senator John Jasinski
Left to Right: Annie Priebe, Vice President - Director of Public Affairs for Federated Insurance; Brad Meier, President/CEO of the Owatonna Area Chamber of Commerce; Me; Andy Wilke, Executive Vice President of Greater Mankato Growth; and Cheryl Deason, Community Relations Manager for Federated Insurance
Owatonna Area Chamber of Commerce, Monthly Growth Breakfast
This morning, I had the opportunity to attend the Monthly Growth Breakfast hosted by the Owatonna Chamber of Commerce. The focus of today’s Growth Breakfast is Community Supported Scholarships to attend Riverland Community College for our graduating Steele County students.
In addition to a fantastic presentation and panel focused on the Community Funded scholarship program, Senator Jasinski and I had the opportunity to provide a brief update on events and legislation happening at the Minnesota State Capitol.
Steeleco Works Meeting
In addition, I had the opportunity to stay after the formal Growth Breakfast presentation and attend the monthly Steeleco Works meeting.
Steeleco Works is a collaborative initiative between the Owatonna Area Chamber of Commerce, the United Way, and the Steele County Schools. Their efforts focus on matching area high school students with future career opportunities.
As many of you know, I am very supportive of workforce development programs throughout our great State of Minnesota as we need to continue to grow our economy and help connect citizens with the kinds of careers that help grow our economy.
Benedictine/KODA Living Center Visit
Tomorrow morning, Friday, April 18th, I will be visiting the Benedictine/KODA Living Center. I look forward to the tour that I have planned and visiting anyone who might be around when I am at the facility. Thank you to Lisa Kern for being willing to host and show me around!
Happy Easter!!
With Good Friday being tomorrow and Easter coming up this Sunday, I want to wish you and your family a joyful and restful weekend. I hope you’re able to spend quality time with loved ones and take a moment to reflect on the hope and renewal that this holiday represents.
