It’s time for real climate action in NYC.

Brad Lander for NYC Mayor

Hi John,

If you’ve waded through subway floods, baked in a classroom without A/C, or watched your utility bill spike after a storm, you already know:

Climate change isn’t some distant future threat. It’s already reshaping daily life in New York City.

We need a Mayor who treats it like the urgent, interconnected crisis it is. That’s why this week, I released the most comprehensive climate plan of the mayoral race – because I believe New York can lead the country with a model that’s bold, smart, and rooted in justice. You can read more about it here.

As Mayor, I’ll launch Public Solar NYC to bring rooftop solar to 150,000 households in just eight years – lowering bills, creating jobs, and cutting carbon.

I’ll help 350,000 more families shift away from fossil fuels with clean, reliable heating and cooling systems.

We’ll strengthen our electric grid with battery storage and give property owners the tools (and the insurance discounts) they need to protect their homes from storms.

And it’s not just about emissions – it’s about how we live. We’ll fix our parks, plant a million new trees, make our schools healthier with solar roofs and electric buses, and ensure that every neighborhood has access to cooling during heat waves. I’ll build a Citywide Climate Strategy that gets these projects done on time, on budget, and with accountability.

All of this change will be powered by thousands of new good-paying green jobs, workforce training, and faster, more reliable public transit. That’s what real climate leadership looks like.

As Comptroller, I led NYC to become the only major U.S. pension fund to fully divest from fossil fuels. I’ve fought for congestion pricing, helped win A/C in every classroom, and taken on Wall Street to force action from polluters. I know how to turn bold plans into real progress, and I’m ready to do that as Mayor of New York City.

Thank you,

Brad
