Every day that we have to face news of yet another mass shooting is a dark one. Worse still, today's tragic news out of Florida comes only two days after a teenager shot 'indiscriminately' at other students as a high school in Dallas, TX, leaving multiple students injured.
As a gun violence survivor, I know how hard days like today are. And as a parent, I know the fear of sending your kids off to school in a country where school shooting have become the norm. I often feel the impulse to turn away and spare myself the pain and grief.
But I also know that this is a privilege that the victims and survivors of these shootings do not have. And I know that if we want to finally see an end to the violence, then it is a privilege none of us can afford. Take action now and send an urgent message to Congress to tell them it's past time for them to do something to protect our kids from gun violence. → [[link removed]]
Change requires action, and action requires that we face these tragedies, the bloodshed and hysteria, head on.
Progress demands that we refuse to go numb, refuse to look away, refuse to be frozen by our grief.
In order to transform our culture, we must bring our whole selves — our grief AND our anger — to this movement.
