Aloha,
Last week, Governor Josh Green took further action to strengthen public safety by signing two important bills into law aimed at reducing gun violence across Hawaii.
Governor Green signed House Bill 392, banning so-called "ghost guns” — untraceable firearms without serial numbers — which pose serious threats to public safety and hinder law enforcement investigations.
Josh also approved House Bill 137, enforcing mandatory prison sentences for violent felons caught possessing firearms or ammunition.
These new laws demonstrate Governor Green’s commitment to protecting our families — especially our children — by addressing gaps in firearm regulations and ensuring accountability for those who misuse guns.
Since Governor Green took office, he has taken important steps to prevent gun violence and get more guns off our streets, including:
— Gun Buyback Events: Successfully removing around 1,000 firearms from our communities through two buyback events, where firearms — including assault rifles, semi-automatics, and ghost guns — were exchanged anonymously for $100 Foodland gift cards.
— Gun-Free Zones: Establishing clear "sensitive places" statewide where firearms are strictly prohibited.
— Active Shooter Training: Implementing essential safety training in our public and charter schools.
These initiatives are part of the Green administration's broader effort to reduce gun violence, enhance public safety, and make our communities safer.
Governor Green continues to work with our law enforcement agencies to expand these programs even further.

Mahalo,
