You may remember the episode of Seinfeld in which hapless George Costanza decided to go against every single instinct he had ever possessed. It worked out pretty well for George, who landed a plum job with the New York Yankees.
Many Democrats seem to be taking a similar route. Whatever Donald Trump says or does, they must do the exact opposite. If Trump is in favor of tariffs or deportations or whatever, Dems stand opposed. If Trump is against DEI or giving billions to Harvard, they must be in favor.
