In 2021, a single disease accounted for approximately 9 percent of all deaths among children under 5: diarrhea.
Diarrhea claims the lives of 1,200 young children each day, or about 444,000 children a year. Most children affected are less than 5 years old.
While it may be extremely common, it’s also extremely simple to treat. UNICEF is working to protect, prevent and treat diarrhea in children with critical interventions like installing handwashing stations with soap, or providing zinc supplements and oral rehydration salts. In rural and marginalized populations, these treatments could save the lives of hundreds of thousands of children each year. Give now to help UNICEF reach more children with these essential interventions, and your gift will be matched 3X. |
These interventions save lives. Preventative measures help stop disease transmission and keep children from becoming ill.
Your donation today will go 3X as far in helping children recover from disease and protect them in the future.
Thank you for supporting children’s health,
