Dear Neighbor, I hope you are well! What I have for you today is information on upcoming events, my legislative visit to KenCrest and stream cleanups I participated in, my office schedule for this week, REAL ID days from PennDOT, and more!

As always, I hope you find the information below informative and useful.

Governor’s Residence Fire

Over the weekend, we learned that an individual set fire to the governor’s residence in Harrisburg and caused significant damage. I was glad to know that Governor Shapiro, his family, and staff were unharmed in the process. I’m deeply angry: when our newsfeed is full of hate and disrespect, it’s not surprising that someone tries to fulfill the messaging. And, as always, I’m impressed by first responders who saved the day.

Office Closure on Friday

In observance of the upcoming holiday, my district office will be closed on Friday, April 18. If you need help with state-related assistance, please send an email to [email protected]

KenCrest Legislative Listening Session

On Friday, I attended a legislative listening session at KenCrest with Rep. Melissa Cerrato. We heard from parental and self advocates about the challenges adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities face, including program complications and waitlists. We also discussed workforce recruitment and retention difficulties and how any cuts to funding would devastate essential services.

It remains one of my highest priorities that we continue to ensure people with disabilities receive consistent care and the services they need, such as early intervention, assistive technology, in-home and community support, and many other critical programs.

Senior Fair 2025

My Senior Fair this year is on Thursday, May 1, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Hall D of the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center! Stop by to learn about senior programs, opportunities, resources and speak with state, federal, county, and local departments.

To RSVP for this event, please visit this website: https://forms.gle/wdyNGXTCJbHfNsRK8.

Stream Cleanups

On Friday and Saturday, I joined with local watershed community groups to participate in two stream cleanups, picking up numerous bags of trash behind the Lower Providence Library and in Hoy Park, and planting dozens of trees. Remember, Earth Day is this Tuesday! Find a way you can help keep our environment clean, even if it’s something small.

License Plate Event at the Senior Fair

Do you have a license plate that's deteriorating? Illegible plates can be subject to a fine of $100. We can help replace yours! My office will be offering a FREE License Plate Restoration at my upcoming Senior Fair. The event will be held in the parking lot of Hall D from 11am to 12pm.

NOTE: This requires separate registration from the Senior Fair signup. Please call my office at 484-200-8263 and a member of my staff will help you sign up. RSVP’s close on April 25.

Pickleball Grand Opening

Last Friday, I visited Forward Pickleball for the grand opening of their facility in Lower Providence! It’s always great welcoming new businesses into our community, and Forward Pickleball is already making an impact as a place where you can play a few games, connect with others, and build a community around an activity.

Real ID Days

As we approach the May 7 enforcement deadline to obtain a REAL ID, PennDOT is offering dedicated days at driver license centers to help YOU get a REAL ID. Both the Norristown and King of Prussia driver license centers will hold REAL ID days on April 28 and May 5.

Beginning May 7, Pennsylvanians will need a REAL ID, or a valid passport or military ID, to board a domestic flight or enter a federal building. Following the enforcement deadline, you will still be able to acquire a REAL ID.

Note that REAL ID Days at driver license centers are for REAL ID services only. To find more information, please visit: https://www.pa.gov/agencies/dmv/driver-services/real-id/real-id-days.html

End Gun Violence Rally

Last week, I attended CeaseFire PA’s #EndGunViolencePA rally in Harrisburg. Too many lives have been lost, and too many families have been shattered due to gun violence. I continue to support commonsense gun reform bills in the Pennsylvania House and advocate for ending gun violence in our Commonwealth.

How to Contact Your Federal Legislators

Remember to maintain federal accountability and express your concerns and questions with your federal officials in the House, Senate, and White House. Observances

Black Maternal Health Week – April 11-17

It’s Black Maternal Health Week, a time where we recognize the inequalities and significantly higher maternal mortality rates that Black mothers and birthing people continue to face. The fight to end this crisis is ongoing, and we make progress only when we work together. That means continuing our efforts to deliver equitable, first-rate healthcare to every single mother and birthing person in our Commonwealth and country.

Easter – April 20

Wishing everyone who celebrates a happy Easter this Sunday!

Earth Day – April 22

Next Tuesday, April 22, we celebrate Earth Day. It’s up to us, and only us, to protect our planet and prioritize the health and well-being of our environment. Change can stem from something as small as using a reuseable bag or volunteering at a community cleanup, and at the government level, it’s passing legislation that protects our waterways from hazardous materials or reduces emissions.

National Child Abuse Prevention Month – April

Across the month of April, we recognize National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Together, we need to continue raising awareness about child abuse and neglect to help prevent it from occurring ensure our children are safe. Remember, if you suspect child abuse, you can reach out to ChildLine’s 24/7 hotline at 1-800-932-0313.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month – April

April is also observed as Sexual Assault Awareness & Prevention Month. It’s important we work with each other to spread awareness about sexual assault, identify signs and prevention methods, and continue to support and offer the critical resources people need.

Remember, there’s always help available. Locally, you can call the Victim Services Center of Montgomery County on their 24/7 hotline at 888-521-0983 or visit their website for more options https://www.victimservicescenter.org/get-help.
