Trump claims to be a “free speech” warrior.
But let’s be honest, his actions prove he’s only interested in protecting speech that praises him and silencing anyone who dares to disagree.
Just weeks after kicking the Associated Press out of the White House press room, Trump has escalated his war on the free press.
He’s now threatening to strip CBS News of its FCC license and fine the network, all because “60 Minutes” aired coverage critical of him.
Trump is suing CBS, Paramount, and “60 Minutes” for $20 billion, alleging they edited an interview with Kamala Harris to hurt his chances in the 2024 election. And now he wants the government to punish them. That’s not free speech. That’s an authoritarian crackdown.
These actions silence government scientists, journalists, teachers, LGBTQ+ Americans, and anyone who won’t bend to his agenda.
Under his leadership:
1.) Health experts were told to stop talking about bird flu during a national emergency.
2.) Federal employees were banned from discussing gender identity or environmental justice.
3.) LGBTQ+ Americans are being erased from government websites and official documents.
4.) Journalists are labeled “enemies of the people,” and lawsuits are piling up against any outlet that doesn’t flatter Trump.
Let’s call this what it is: a full-blown assault on the First Amendment.
We can’t let Trump rewrite the rules of our democracy.
