PROPOSED DISCHARGE OF DREDGED OR FILL MATERIAL TO THE NORTH PLATTE RIVER

The Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (WDEQ) has received a request from the Western Heritage Consulting and Engineering for State certification of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Nationwide Permit #13, for the discharge of dredged or fill material the North Platte River in Saratoga, Wyoming. The purpose of the project is to stabilize the bank to prevent further property loss due to erosion. This segment of the North Platte River is designated Class 1 where point source discharges are prohibited except stormwater and construction related discharges. This certification will require meeting the provisions in Chapter 1, Section 7(b) of the WDEQ Water Quality Rules and Regulations, which allows these discharges under certain circumstances. Proposed activities include placement of riprap along 185 linear feet of bank to protect the existing property from further erosion. To do this, approximately 267 cubic yard (CY) of D50=24” rip rap will be placed to construct the bank stabilization features. No permanent impacts to wetlands are anticipated.

Requests for information about the proposed water quality certification should be directed to James Tarzon by email ([email protected]) or phone (307-777-6353).
