How can the tax code make housing more affordable?
As Congress works to address expiring provisions of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, lawmakers have a prime opportunity to improve housing affordability across the country. The tax code currently provides incentives for housing development and homeowners, but it could do much more.


Our round up of tax code improvements explains how lawmakers could boost the housing supply by expanding the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit and Opportunity Zones, provide more relief for struggling homeowners, and create stability for renters with a federal renter credit.


These could help ensure all families have a safe, quality, and affordable place to call home.
