On Friday, over 1,500 domestic worker leaders, organizers, and partners were joined by special guest Senator Bernie Sanders at our National Assembly.
The energy was electric as he delivered a clear message: the work domestic workers do every single day is essential–and protecting care workers, who are often paid poverty wages, could not be more urgent and critical in this moment.
During these tumultuous times, it was incredibly inspiring for our amazing community to feel seen and to gather, to strategize and strengthen our movement, and to build our collective power to fight, to endure, and to lead.
There is so much at stake for low-paid care workers right now. Medicaid funding is under threat. Immigrant community members face renewed uncertainty under threat of deportation and family separation. Workers' rights and protections are at risk.
It’s why coming together last week to be in community to strengthen our power, solidarity, and resilience is so important, and now that we’ve been collectively re-energized and refocused, we’re 100% ready to take on these critical initiatives:
None of this will be easy, but we left the National Assembly energized by bold ideas, unstoppable momentum, and the strength of this community—all of us ready to carry this momentum forward.
Together, we’re proving that domestic workers refuse to be invisible–and that when we unite, we can win.
Thank you for all you do,
The NDWA Team
Thank you for being a dedicated supporter of the National Domestic Workers Alliance!
We're working day and night to win respect, recognition, and labor rights and protections for the more than 2.5 million nannies, house cleaners, and homecare workers.
The majority of domestic workers sit at the center of some of our nation’s most decisive issues because of who they are and what they do: they are women – mostly women of color, immigrants, mothers, and low-wage workers. They are impacted by almost every policy affecting the future of our economy, democracy and country.
Domestic workers can lead us toward a new, inclusive vision for the future for all of us -- and your grassroots support is the fuel that can get us there.
