John,
As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, I have made it my mission to protect the rule of law, conduct rigorous oversight of the Department of Justice, and restore integrity to the courts.
That’s why I cannot — under any circumstances — allow Donald Trump’s nomination of Ed Martin as U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia to advance.
And it’s why I put a hold on his nomination.
For the past few weeks, Ed Martin has served as Interim U.S. Attorney in the same role. He’s been a one-man wrecking ball — threatening perceived “enemies” of the Trump administration, firing career public servants for simply doing their jobs, using the powers of his office to deter free speech, and so much more.
But his troubling history goes back much longer than just the past few weeks. Martin was one of the leading advocates of the “Stop the Steal” movement. He even personally represented some of the same individuals who stormed the Capitol and attacked police officers on January 6th.
He’s also shown a blatant disregard for executing the duties of his office. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Martin literally labeled the prosecutors in his office as “President Trump’s lawyers.”
Let me be clear about this, John: Federal prosecutors are not Donald Trump’s lawyers. They are the people’s lawyers tasked with defending the Constitution, upholding the rule of law, and protecting our democracy — not serving the political whims of any one president.
No one person represents Donald Trump’s weaponization of the Department of Justice more than Ed Martin. He is unfit to serve, which is why I placed a hold on his nomination and will block every attempt to jam through his appointment.
If you support my work alongside Senate Democrats to fight back against right-wing judges and Trump’s efforts to rig the system in his favor, add your name to my petition today →
Thank you for standing with me. I’m prepared to use every ounce of my power to defend our Constitution and protect the rule of law.
— Adam
