Recently, I had the incredible honor of speaking at LGBTQ+ Victory Fund’s Champagne Brunch in Houston. And let me tell you: it was one of those rare rooms that felt electric with hope, purpose, and possibility (and, okay, a healthy dose of champagne at 11AM).

There’s a lot of hard news out there right now. More than 200 anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been introduced in Texas alone. But what I felt in that room - and what I still carry with me - is the reminder that we are not powerless.
We have each other.
We have our stories.
And we have LGBTQ+ Victory Fund: our infrastructure for change.

I know what it feels like to be told to shrink yourself. I was bullied as a kid. I was sent to conversion therapy at 17. I was fired by my Hollywood reps for being gay. I remember that day so clearly. I sat in my car outside their offices with the blistering heat bearing down on me (my car had no A/C to boot), broke and humiliated, wondering if being fully myself would cost me everything.
But I also know what it feels like to fight back. I scraped together the last dollars in my bank account, got on a plane, and found new reps who believed in me. I worked my way back and booked roles on T.V. and in films — I even fixed my Honda’s air conditioner!
We are all in that hot car right now. The heat is rising. But we’re gripping the wheel, and we still get to choose where we go next.
That’s what your donation does. It fuels the fight. It helps us stand firm when others want us to fade away. It makes sure we elect leaders who won’t back down.
