New research commissioned by the Liberal Democrats revealed this week that there were 20.5 million month-long waits to see a GP last year - a record number representing one-in-ten waits in some areas!
Almost 95% of areas saw an increase in month-long waits, with some areas seeing a rise of over 50%. This data measures the time between booking an appointment and it taking place.
Despite a change of government, our broken NHS shows little sign of repair.
This postcode lottery is leaving people in vast swathes of the country without the care they deserve. Many already in pain are being forced into anxiety-inducing waits that only add to their suffering and risk them not getting the treatment they need in time.
People are also struggling to get NHS dental appointments - with devastating consequences.
New data uncovered by the Liberal Democrats shows almost 3,000 children ended up in A&E with tooth decay last year, up a fifth in five years.
This is a national scandal with many areas of the country being turned into dental deserts.
The Conservatives had years to fix the NHS crisis, but instead their neglect led to it spiralling out of control. Now, the Labour government is showing a devastating lack of ambition to turn things around.
If we are going to give communities the local health care they need, we have to go further and faster.
That means giving patients a legal right to see their GP within a week, or 24 hours if urgent, with 8,000 more GPs to deliver it. We also need a complete overhaul of the dental contract to boost the number of dentists and appointments.
