In the latest display of shocking and wildly unnecessary violence from Trump's deportation goons, an ICE agent was filmed smashing a car window with a sledgehammer in New Bedford, Massachusetts, in order to detain and deport Juan Francisco Méndez, a 29-year-old immigrant from Guatemala with no criminal record. "They pulled us out violently. They treated us very harshly," Méndez’s wife recalled through tears. Another video purportedly shows ICE agents arresting a child wearing a Winnie-the-Pooh shirt who was on her way to school. Still more new footage shows ICE agents violently arresting an immigrant in a courthouse who was on his way to a court hearing, knocking over an elderly man with a cane in the process. There is no possible world where these kinds of assaults are justifiable. The eagerness with which the Department of Homeland Security has been carrying out an indiscriminate widespread campaign of terror and kidnapping against noncriminal immigrants should provoke some hard choices and serious soul-searching...if non-fascists ever regain power again.

Robert Garcia and Maxwell Frost have asked House Oversight Committee chair James Comer to approve an official congressional delegation to El Salvador for the same purpose, though he is unlikely to approve it and they should just go anyway. Garcia's wife, Jennifer Vasquez Sura, made an impassioned plea for his release on Monday afternoon, telling the nation that "Today is 34 days of after his disappearance, and I stand before you filled with spirit that refuses to bring down. I will not stop fighting until I see my husband alive. Kilmar, if you can hear me, stay strong. God hasn't forgotten about you. Our children are asking: When will you come home? And I pray for the day I tell them the time and date that you'll return." What has happened to Kilmar Abrego Garcia and the rest of the innocent immigrants that Trump's Gestapo is a moral atrocity and their freedom should be the highest priority for anyone who believes in justice or is even capable of summoning up a shred of basic human empathy — which apparently does not include the entirety of the Republican Party.
