Team, last week, the House of Representatives voted to pass one of the most dangerous threats to women’s rights in America. It is now one step closer to becoming federal law.
If the Senate passes the SAVE Act, millions of women would lose access to the ballot box, resulting in a catastrophic backslide for women’s rights in America. We must keep electing women as our best line of defense against these proposed laws.
Congresswoman Maxine Dexter introduced an amendment that gave her colleagues a chance to protect women’s voting rights by stopping the bill from being implemented unless Congress could guarantee that no women would be denied the right to vote. Republicans voted it down.
At Her Bold Move, we were not surprised to learn that a Congresswoman stood up against this anti-woman policy. As male legislators continue to pass dangerous laws about women’s bodies, healthcare, and hard-fought rights, we desperately need to elect as many women as we can to offices across the country. Hi there,
We are writing today because one of the most dangerous threats to women’s rights in America is now one step closer to becoming federal law.
Yesterday, the Republican-controlled House officially voted to pass the “Safeguard American Voter Eligibility” (SAVE) Act which would result in the disenfranchisement of millions of eligible voters. You may have heard about this bill and how it would impact millions of American women… Now that Republicans have a trifecta in Washington, it could easily become law.
Here is just one reason why this matters:
This bill would have a devastating impact on women – most notably on the approximately 69 million women in America who legally changed their last names when they got married – because the SAVE Act requires a birth certificate that matches the name of the person registering to vote.

On April 1st, Congresswoman Maxine Dexter gave her colleagues a chance to protect women’s voting rights by introducing an amendment to the bill that would block it from being implemented unless Congress could guarantee that no eligible married women be denied the right to vote. Republicans voted it down.

We will be monitoring the progress of this bill in the Senate and will keep you posted. In the meantime, we remain deeply concerned about the implications this would havel on millions of Americans who might not have access to birth certificates, passports, or the documentation this bill would require them to present in order to exercise their constitutional right to vote.
If 69 million American women across the country lose their ability to vote, that would be a catastrophic backslide for women’s rights in America. We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: we must keep up the fight. Women have made SO MUCH PROGRESS over the last century. We must defend that hard-fought progress on behalf of our mothers, our grandmothers, our daughters, and our friends. At Her Bold Move, we know our first line of defense will be the women we elect to our government – the women in the rooms where these decisions are being made. You can join our fight today by donating $20.25 or more right now. →

Her Bold Move is the fastest-growing support network for women running for political office in America. As dangerous laws about women get passed in states with the lowest numbers of women in government (11%, 12%....), we're BREAKING the male supermajorities across those states.
Because men shouldn't be making laws about women's bodies.
