Good for America Victory Committee

Dear John,

Another “tax day” has come and gone. Americans across Virginia and around the country had to settle up with the federal government, while having little influence on how our hard-earned tax dollars are spent, or even wasted, on our behalf.

Last year, the federal government spent about $7 trillion, while taking about $5 trillion from us – the taxpayers. The government has no money, so all of that $5 trillion came from us, and worse yet, the $7 trillion they spent required $2 trillion to be borrowed from us – and our kids and grandkids.

So, the national debt grew by another $2 trillion last year, to over $36 trillion. Every dollar spent by Congress and the federal government is paid for by us through higher taxes, more inflation, higher interest rates, and/or the growing national debt.

Where are our tax dollars going? What is our government spending our money on?

Nearly all of the $7 trillion in federal government spending breaks down into 4 primary buckets:

  • About $3 trillion is for the “mandatory” entitlement programs of Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid

  • About $2 trillion is for other benefits and subsidies, including cash welfare, food stamps, housing subsidies, federal retirement pensions, disability, unemployment, and veterans’ benefits

  • About $1 trillion is for national defense

  • About $1 trillion is for interest on the national debt

In short – with “only” $5 trillion in annual tax revenue, the $7 trillion in annual spending is unsustainable, and is the primary driver of the 40-year high inflation and 20-year high interest rates under which Americans are suffering.

Will Republicans in Congress step up and meet the moment, and at long last, finally cut spending? They can do this without Democrat votes through the current budget resolution reconciliation process. This means that the House’s budget resolution, driven by the Freedom Caucus and which directed an inadequate $2 trillion in spending cuts over 10 years, must be reconciled with the Senate version which requires no spending cuts.

The President, the Speaker, and the Senate Majority Leader should stand with the principled and courageous conservatives in demanding that all Republicans support the House version with the $2 trillion in spending cuts.  Now is the time to reverse the course of history and take a step toward fiscal solvency.

There were a couple of recent positive developments in Congress:

  • They passed the SAVE Act, sponsored by Rep. Chip Roy (TX), to help prevent illegals and other non-citizens from voting in federal elections. This bill requires proof of citizenship when registering to vote, and requires states to purge non-citizens from their federal voting rolls.

  • The House and the Speaker successfully resisted an effort by Rep. Anna Luna (FL) to restore unconstitutional proxy voting. In fact, Rep. Luna quit the Freedom Caucus because of the other members’ refusal to support proxy voting.

Finally, I want to ask for your help in supporting my ability to stay in the battle for our country. I need your financial support to enable my voice to be heard on the issues that matter most. I also need your help with retiring my campaign debt from 2024 and keeping my options open for 2026.

Will you help me with a contribution today? Your gift of any amount will make a difference and help me continue to fight for you.
