The Senate is hearing NEW revenue proposals TOMORROW!

Things are moving quickly in the legislature! The Senate, which previously dropped a package of revenue bills meant to balance our state's budget and address our regressive tax code, will be hearing a set of four updated revenue bills tomorrow:

SB 5812: Investing in the state's paramount duty to fund K-12 education and build strong and safe communities. This bill makes changes to property taxes to fund education.
SB 5813: Increasing funding to the education legacy trust account by creating a more progressive rate structure for the capital gains tax and estate tax. This bill increases the tax on capital gains, and increases the estate tax.
SB 5814: Modernizing the excise taxes on select services and nicotine products and requiring certain large businesses to make a one-time prepayment of state sales tax collection.
SB 5811 : Establishing a tax on certain business activities related to surpluses generated under the zero-emission vehicle program. This bill establishes an excise tax on zero emission vehicles.

These bills will be heard in the Senate Ways & Means Committee at 5:30pm on Wednesday, April 16. These opportunities for progressive revenue will help balance a tax code that has historically asked the poorest in the state to pay the highest proportion of their income in taxes. Showing support for these progressive revenue bills by signing in PRO is an easy way to make your voice heard, and helps your representatives fight for you!
