Hey John, it’s Aru with Sunrise Movement.
Today is Tax Day — and chances are, you just paid more in taxes than a billionaire oil CEO.
And let’s be real: definitely more than Donald Trump.
For over 100 years, fossil fuel companies have used corrupt politicians to dodge billions in taxes, all while raking in record profits and driving climate disaster. Now, they’re lobbying for even more tax breaks — and some Democrats are helping them do it.
This is what corruption looks like.
We don’t have the billions that oil and gas CEOs are pouring into politicians’ pockets — we rely on small-dollar donations from people like you to power this movement and fight back. In April, our average contribution was just $16 — and every single contribution went to fueling the youth-led fight for a livable future.
A new bill backed by lawmakers who’ve cashed hundreds of thousands in Big Oil checks would give fossil fuel corporations even more loopholes to dodge the bare minimum taxes they already fought tooth and nail to avoid. That’s on top of the $170 billion in existing subsidies already handed out to coal, oil, and gas companies.
They profit. We pay. But it doesn’t have to be this way.
Sunrise is organizing thousands of young people to fight for a government that works for all of us — not just the rich and powerful. We’re training the next generation of leaders, exposing corporate corruption, and building the power we need to win bold climate action.
This Tax Day, we’re not just calling it out — we’re organizing to win. Join the fight.
