North Carolina voters spoke in November.

They elected Democrats statewide, rejecting far-right extremism — including in our state Supreme Court race.

Republicans refuse to accept the will of the voters.

Justice Allison Riggs won election to her Supreme Court seat. That victory has been confirmed multiple times. But instead of accepting the results, Justice Riggs’s Republican opponent launched an all-out assault on our democratic process. We have to fight back.

The voters at issue all complied with the rules of the election when they voted. The defeated GOP candidate is asking the courts to change those rules, not before the election, but months after it was decided. He wants to throw out tens of thousands of legally valid ballots and overturn the outcome of the election that he lost.

This is blatantly anti-democratic and un-American, John. What’s deeply concerning is that he got the Republican majority North Carolina appellate courts to agree with some of his arguments, forcing Justice Riggs to appeal to the federal courts.

North Carolina’s voters deserve to have their ballots counted and their choice respected.
