Hi folks,
Today is Tax Day—and while it may not be everyone’s favorite day, Michael believes our tax code is a reflection of our values.
President Trump and the Republicans have made it clear who they value.
As we speak, they are working on a budget bill that will hand another tax giveaway to the wealthiest Americans and the biggest corporations. To pay for it, they plan to cut Medicaid and gut the federal agencies that support our veterans, students, and public lands. They’re even considering slashing the clean energy tax credits and infrastructure investments that have benefitted rural communities.
Michael knows they have it all backward.
In the Senate, Michael continues to fight for a tax code that supports our working families and sets up the next generation of Americans for success.
This month, he introduced legislation that would permanently expand the Child Tax Credit. When it was was temporarily expanded over the pandemic, it reduced taxes for 96% of Colorado families and cut the childhood poverty rate nearly in half. Michael’s work on this inspired the Colorado State Legislature to pass their own Child Tax Credit, which has given Colorado families much-needed support.
Michael is also working to expand the Earned Income Tax Credit, which would cut taxes for low-income and middle-class families, and pass a tax credit for family caregivers—including the 600,000 caregivers who live in Colorado.
Now, Michael is running for Governor to bring that same bold leadership to Colorado.
He will work with partners in the state legislature to make sure Colorado's budget prioritizes education, protects access to affordable healthcare, supports our entrepreneurs and small businesses, and brings much-needed relief to Colorado’s working families.
We can do this. We know the best solutions to the challenges we face will come from right here in Colorado, with us working together to get things done. If you’re ready to join us in this, consider chipping in today. >>
