Dear Friends,

One of my most important tasks is to prepare a balanced budget that delivers results, provides essential services, keeps the core functions of government on track, and reflects our community’s priorities.

In a year with great uncertainty, our budget puts students first with record investments in public education - and protects core services that our residents rely on. We achieve these goals without raising taxes.

Through this budget, we allocate over $508 million for our public schools, a $118 million increase - or 30% - over the past three years. We dedicate $175 million to school construction, an $80 million - or 86% - increase over last year.

We are each called to do the most we can, where we are, with what we have - and our budget does just that. In the most challenging fiscal environment in more than two decades, we remain steadfast in our commitment to public education and essential services - doing the absolute most we can under these circumstances.

With this approach, we will ensure Frederick County remains the best place in Maryland to live - a vibrant and unique community where everyone can live, work, and thrive while enjoying a strong sense of place and belonging.

Sincerely,

Jessica Fitzwater
