On the campaign trail, Trump vowed to be his supporters “retribution.” He threatened to “root out the vermin.” After becoming president, he weaponized the Department of Justice and signed executive orders directing them to pursue critics and political opponents.

JOHN:

A legal resident of the United States was deported to El Salvador early in Trump’s administration. He was married to a U.S. citizen, his children were U.S. citizens, and he had a work permit.

A "Withholding of Removal" order was issued in 2019 preventing his deportation. A federal court ordered Donald Trump not to deport him while his deportation flight was in progress. Trump’s administration admitted he was deported in error. After his deportation, a federal court ordered that he be returned. And now, after appeal, the Supreme Court has ordered Donald Trump to return him to the United States.

Kilmar Abrego Garcia is now allegedly in a prison in El Salvador alongside hundreds of others deported from the United States without charges or due process. And when the president of El Salvador visited Trump in the White House yesterday, they both refused to facilitate his return.

Trump is refusing to follow an order from the Supreme Court. But somehow, it gets worse than that.

At the meeting, Trump said: "Home-growns are next. The home-growns. You gotta build about five more places. It’s not big enough." It used to be that you had to take Trump seriously, but not literally. Over the last four months we have all learned that’s no longer the case.

On the campaign trail, Trump vowed to be his supporters “retribution.” He threatened to “root out the vermin.” After becoming president, he weaponized the Department of Justice and signed executive orders directing them to pursue critics and political opponents. And now, he wants to send American citizens to foreign prisons.

The seriousness of this moment cannot be understated. VoteVets is an organization by Veterans, for Veterans. We advocate for Veterans, we support them, and we help them affect change as public servants. That remains our mission.

But our Constitutional order is being torn apart. We’ve each sworn an oath to support and defend the Constitution — and we will uphold that oath. Each of us must do what we can to defend our democracy now.

We’ve got to be ready to fight like never before. That’s what this moment demands of us, and we have to meet the call.

VoteVets will not back down, and we are going to continue defending our democracy. If you’re with us, and you’d like to support our mission chip in $5 or whatever you can today.
