Rep. Jordan Header
Dear Neighbors,
This week is a break from our official legislative work as we take a moment to recognize the Easter and Passover holidays while also preparing ourselves for the final weeks of session. When we return on Monday, we’ll truly be in the home stretch of our work for the year - and we’ll also be hosting a Minneapolis Town Hall that evening!
I’ll be joining DFL state legislators and Congresswoman Ilhan Omar to discuss the actions of the Trump administration, their impact on Minnesota, and what we’re doing to fight back.
The event will be on Monday, April 21 at 7pm. To receive the location information, please register for the event here [ [link removed] ].

I hope to see you there! Regardless of whether or not you can make it, you can read about some of the state resources and actions we’re taking to protect our community in this update:

Small Business Impact Survey*
Amid the confusion around federal tariffs, the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development is gathering information from affected small businesses in Minnesota.
In this period of uncertainty, there may be a lag in data, so this survey is a way for our Minneapolis business owners to communicate directly with the department now. The survey [ [link removed] ] takes less than five minutes to complete. By collaborating with Minnesota's locally owned small businesses, which face significant challenges, we can proactively plan for the state's future needs.

Protect Medicaid, Not Millionaires*
While President Trump and Congressional Republicans look to subsidize tax cuts for the wealthy by reducing federal funding for Medicaid, my colleagues introduced legislation [ [link removed] ] that would raise taxes on millionaires at the level necessary to offset any cuts to this crucial program. Medicaid is the largest single source of health insurance in Minnesota, serving senior citizens, children, families, and people with disabilities.
protect
A report from Congress’s Joint Economic Committee [ [link removed] ] found that if Republicans in Congress pass their proposed budget and cut Medicaid, Minnesota could see 89,000 rural residents lose their health coverage,130,000 children lose their health insurance, more than 1 in 6 seniors lose their nursing home care and, in total, nearly 400,000 people cut off from their health insurance. If these callous cuts go through without additional revenue raised by Minnesota, it will have a direct and immediate negative effect on health in Minnesota, costing lives and doing harm.

Federal Funding Cuts
*Last week, Governor Walz announced a new dashboard Minnesotans can use to track disruptions and cancellations of federal funding [ [link removed] ] and their impact on services available to Minnesotans. Federal disruptions and cuts so far include grants to track measles and avian influenza, provide heating assistance, and mitigate flooding - all crucial investments.
Federal Cuts
Despite court orders prohibiting the federal government from freezing many funding streams, disruptions to federal funds [ [link removed] ] have continued. Some disruptions are short-lived. Other grants and awards are abruptly canceled altogether, resulting in layoffs and fewer services for Minnesotans.
As a state legislator, there’s not much I can do to stop the Trump administration, but I’m not without options when it comes to defending our state and preparing our budget for the cuts coming our way. It would help if Minnesota Republicans in D.C. and St. Paul took their heads out of the sand, but I’m committed to providing our state with the resources it needs to weather these next four years.
