Virginia public schools now required to install STOP THE BLEED® Kits after new state law
Stop The Bleed Coalition | April 9 2025
Virginia has become the 15th state to pass bleeding control legislation, joining national effort to improve trauma response before EMS arrives.
House Bill 1700 ([link removed]) , signed into law March 21 by Gov. Glenn Youngkin, mandates that STOP THE BLEED® kits be stored in easily accessible locations at all public elementary and high schools in Virginia. The law also requires local school boards to implement a bleeding control program. Placement of the kits will be coordinated with division safety officials or local first responders to ensure rapid access during an emergency.
This is a huge step to insure that school communities are prepared for any bleeding emergency.

Check out the latest STOP THE BLEED® Podcast episode and listen to a powerful conversation with Travis Coleman, a Missouri school teacher turned activist. After spending two years researching dozens of school shootings, Travis began drafting proposals aimed at both preventing violence and saving lives. But it was his visit to Uvalde and witnessing the pain first hand that became a turning point. Driven to do more, Travis launched his non-profit, Safer Schools for Safer Smiles, which champions school safety policies and advocates for legislation requiring STOP THE BLEED® kits in schools.
