We were not expecting this twist, John.
Days after Trump announced his massive tariffs on "Liberation Day" which threatened global economic meltdown, his team repeatedly assured the public that he intended to see them through to the bitter end. Then, suddenly, Trump paused nearly all of the tariffs - sending markets soaring in a matter of minutes.
Dozens of wealthy traders made mega-millions on that spike. But how did they know it was coming before anyone else did?
Now, Senators Adam Schiff and Ruben Gallego have launched an investigation to find out whether Trump and his cronies were insider trading on the very market crash—and recovery—that they created.
And Congresswoman Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez has renewed her call to ban congressional insider trading, armed with more momentum and soon more evidence of corrupt trading around Trump's reckless and arbitrary tariffs:

It’s not new that members of Congress have access to news before everyday Americans that they leverage to enrich themselves.
But what makes this situation different is that Trump may have tanked the markets purposely to give his cronies an opportunity to “buy the dip,” or make large investments while stock values were lower. Then, by pausing the tariffs, the market recovered and delivered huge profits for those who were "on the inside" beforehand.
Martha Stewart was imprisoned for a lot less than this — as would any of us.
We will know a lot more when Members of Congress have to disclose their finances on May 15. And when that information is released, we will be ready to take action: Ban The Trade is working to stop Congress from ever having the opportunity to cash out on corruption like this again.
That’s why we’re asking for your support, John: just $10 can help us in our efforts to make this practice illegal.
We’re identifying the most corrupt politicians and supporting true reformers who will end congressional insider stock trading once and for all.
John, can you chip in $10, $25 or more today to power our fight against corruption in Congress?

We can end this self-dealing by supporting candidates for Congress who are dedicated to ending congressional stock trading—and defeating those who think that their power and privilege exists only to enrich themselves.
Thank you for being with us in this fight.
Sincerely,
Ban the Trade PAC
