ICYMI: Here’s what we’ve been up to.

Friend,

School safety doesn't take vacations, and neither do we. As students head into spring break, we're not hitting pause on our mission to protect every classroom.

We need your help to be ready to keep this nation’s school safe. To support this work, please consider sending in a gift today to fund our advocacy efforts.

Victory: Federal Court Upholds Life-Saving Law

We applauded the U.S. Eleventh Circuit Court for upholding Florida’s prohibition on firearm purchases for individuals under 21 — a critical piece of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Public Safety Act.

Why it matters: This innovative school safety law, passed three weeks after the Parkland Massacre with bipartisan support, has helped keep Florida’s schools safer for seven years.

While the federal court ruling ensures it stays intact, SWP is laser-focused on ensuring the FL Senate continues to uphold the act.

National Highlight: We Took Our Fight to Washington

In February, SWP families carried our urgent message to Capitol Hill.

We met with lawmakers from both parties to demand action on:

The MSD Act
Modernizing school infrastructure security
Standardizing emergency response protocols

The SASS Act
Expanding mental health resources
Improving behavioral threat assessment programs

The EAGLES Act
Continuing support for the National Threat Assessment Center
Providing local training on school safety initiatives

We encourage our elected officials to protect our children at school, at home, and in our communities. Will you please join us in urging Congress to take permanent action to keep our nation's children safe?

On the Frontlines in Tallahassee: Our Florida Legislative Update

As Florida’s legislative session continues, Stand With Parkland families remain focused on protecting the progress we’ve made in school safety since 2018.

Responsible firearm ownership, one of our Three Pillars of Change, was central to the passage of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas School Safety Act, which raised the minimum firearm purchase age to 21 and stands today as a national example of effective school safety legislation.

This session, we’ve continued to advocate for policies that put student safety first. SWP Board Member Debbi Hixon, wife of Chris Hixon, a beloved teacher and athletic director at MSD, shared her powerful story before a Florida House Committee, underscoring why these protections matter.

We’re proud of how far Florida has come, and we’re committed to keeping schools safe for every student, educator, and family.

Spotlighting Bipartisan Leadership

This month, Stand With Parkland families met with key leaders from both sides of the aisle, House Speaker Danny Perez (R) and Rep. Christine Hunschofsky (D), who’ve shown real commitment to student safety.

We’re grateful for their leadership in expanding mental health resources, strengthening threat assessment training, and ensuring accountability in school security.

Back in Washington, DC.

On the seventh anniversary of the Parkland school shooting, Florida Representatives Jared Moskowitz (D), a Marjory Stoneman Douglas graduate, and Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R) introduced a bold, bipartisan school safety package to ensure the issue remains a top priority.

As Rep. Moskowitz said, “We all want our kids to be able to go to school and come home safely.”

We couldn’t agree more. Now we need your voice.

Will you add your name to convince the rest of Congress that school safety is a shared priority?
