Updates from the campaign trail, and standing up to Trump
Dear Friend,
I hope this Passover week and Holy Week find you in the joyful company of friends and family. Over the weekend, I had the great honor of celebrating Palm Sunday with the congregation of the First Corinthian Baptist Church in Harlem and then with Melba herself at Melba’s restaurant. While in Harlem, I caught up with NY1 about my campaign and my plans to make New York City safer and more affordable.
It has been my great honor to receive a number of endorsements recently. The powerhouse unions, 32BJ SEIU and the Hotel and Gaming Trades Council (HTC), this week announced their endorsements of my campaign for Mayor. The members of HTC and 32BJ SEIU are the backbone of New York. They clean our buildings, run our hotels, care for our communities, and keep this city moving. Their faith in me is a tremendous boost for our campaign and I am proud to have their support.
I’ve also been thankful for the meaningful endorsements of faith leaders. Black clergy members across the city have pledged their support for our vision to end the chaos in New York City, including Reverend Dr. Kevin R. Johnson of the storied Abyssinian Baptist Church, who said “Andrew Cuomo is the most qualified leader to create affordable housing, revitalize our economy, keep us safe, and he’s also going to stand up to Donald Trump.”
Many of us have been deeply troubled by the news coming out of the Trump administration: disregard for the rule of law, revenge against political opponents, and the elimination of funding for key programs, especially for the people who need them most. These are the actions of a bully. And you know what you do with a bully? You stand up to a bully. When a bully puts his finger in your chest, you step forward. You don't step back. As Mayor, I’ll step forward and stand up to Donald Trump. I will fight the good fight and I will make sure that Donald Trump knows that New York City won’t be bullied.
