Jack,

Over the weekend, my son and I joined the protests in Central Wisconsin, peacefully marching with over a thousand others to honor the life of George Floyd. It was a powerful event, and I know that we can create real change.

Everyone is entitled to dignity, respect, and equality and there is a lot of work to do. We must work to become strong allies and take action in order to create a better country for all races.

Some things we can do now include: demand accountability from your elected leaders; train to be a legal observer; donate to causes that work toward achieving racial equality and social justice; attend events where you can learn, listen and be an ally; step out of your comfort zone and have conversations on race in America and changes that need to happen; identify intolerable practices deemed acceptable that must stop; and VOTE.

Together we can build a better future for all Americans. I’ll leave you all with some inspiring words from President Barack Obama.

"[I]f we want to bring about real change, then the choice isn’t between protest and politics. We have to do both. We have to mobilize to raise awareness, and we have to organize and cast our ballots to make sure that we elect candidates who will act on reform."
