Hi John,

The "unusual mortality event" that wiped out thousands of Florida's manatees in recent years was the result of polluted habitat.

Pollution choked off the seagrass manatees depend on, launching a death spiral that brought these gentle giants closer to the brink.

Now, if the Trump administration gets its way, all endangered and threatened animals will lose habitat protection.

This egregious attack hits at the core of the Center's work, and we'll do all we can to stop it. Please help now with a matched gift to the Future for the Wild Fund.

Since he took office, Trump has been issuing orders that try to skirt the Endangered Species Act. It's how he's moved to approve more oil drilling, more forest logging, more polluting of rivers, streams and swamps.

But now he's taken direct aim at the Act. He wants to redefine what qualifies as "harm" to threatened and endangered creatures to make it easier to develop and plunder lands and waters where precious, and frequently imperiled, species live.

The administration has been systematically killing protections for our air, water, and climate. Now animals from lynx to spotted owls are in the crosshairs.

By launching a process to redefine "harm" so that it no longer includes habitat protections, the Interior Department is giving up on saving our most endangered animals. Just to boost short-term corporate profits.

The Act is the strongest tool we've got to protect species. Weakening it will tear down our ability to save wildlife across the country.

This is just the beginning of an attempt to toss a spear into the heart of wildlife conservation. It's immoral, and it's illegal. We'll fight back with all we've got to save each and every animal in harm's way.

This is our life's work, and we're not going anywhere.
