Tomorrow’s Tax Day — and while hardworking people across this nation continue to pay what they owe, year in and year out, I want you to imagine what’s possible if we get the rich to pay a fair share:
A country where nobody is bankrupted by one bad medical diagnosis.
Where every parent can find and afford good, quality child care.
Where every child has a first-rate education that gives them a shot at a good life.
And where every American has a place to live that doesn’t break the bank.
We could build a future not just for the wealthy and well-connected, but for everyone.
And there are plenty of paths we can take to get there.
I’ve got a plan for a wealth tax on fortunes greater than $50 million. I’ve passed a bill that gives us tools to prevent some of the largest, most profitable corporations in America from paying $0 in taxes.
And I’m fighting to stop Congressional Republicans from extending Donald Trump’s massive tax breaks for the wealthy — while calling out the ways Trump and his unelected co-president, Elon Musk, are trying to give a free pass to rich tax cheats.
Right now, Musk and his DOGE goons are trying to go on a firing spree at the IRS, targeting the very staff who go after wealthy people dodging their taxes.
Already, the wealthiest five percent of Americans skip out on paying an estimated $591 billion in taxes each year. And experts say that cutting the IRS in half would lead to an additional $2.4 trillion in lost revenue over the next decade. Read that again: $2.4 trillion. Just imagine the investments we could make in our kids’ future with that kind of money.
It’s no surprise that Trump and Musk are trying to make it easier for rich people to cheat on their taxes. And of course they’re pushing massive tax breaks for the wealthy. Billionaires helped send Donald Trump to the White House, and now they’re expecting a return on that investment.
But we’re fighting back for a tax code where a Boston public school teacher doesn’t pay a higher tax rate than Jeff Bezos. A tax code that invests in schools, health care, infrastructure, and programs that help working families get ahead. A tax code that helps give everyone a fighting chance at the American dream.
And as long as we fight together, we can win together.
If you want to build a tax code that works not just for the wealthy and well-connected, but for everybody, sign on to say you’re with me in this fight.
Thanks for being a part of this,
