Black Lives Matter

John, we’re fed up.

This month, young people and advocates took to the streets to protest against Trump’s path of destruction with the Department of Education.

This is the power of protest. ✊🏿 We can make our voices heard and demand action. The most critical parts of our federal government that provide vital services are disappearing before our eyes, but we’re not just going to watch. We’re fighting back!

We won't sit back and let petty tyrants reverse decades of progress. If you’re with us, please chip in to our movement today.

As Trump slashes away at Department of Education programs that are designed to help Americans, we acknowledge that the most vulnerable communities are being hurt the hardest.

Let’s start with DEI—the boogie-man of the far right.

  • In a 5-4 vote, the Supreme Court allowed Trump’s administration to keep $65 million for teacher training and professional development frozen.

  • This funding is critical to target teacher shortages. Our classrooms are already overcrowded and students are suffering for it. They are not getting the quality education they need to thrive.

  • Many of the recipients of these grants include HBCUs and Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities. The Trump administration even sent them letters claiming that they’re partaking in discriminatory activities.

Not only are they pulling grants for universities, but FAFSA is at risk too.

  • This financial aid program allows students to gain the resources they need to attend college.

  • However, with slashes to staffing at the DOE we can expect processing times to slow down. Applicants need to make their decision well before the department is going to finish up.

  • Money is already a huge barrier for entry to college, and without timely financial aid decisions, students are blocked from opportunity.

Public schools are also facing accessibility issues, such as lack of wheelchair access and special education programs.

The Department of Education oversees federal laws that govern how students with and without disabilities experience school. There’s a law that specifically protects the rights of students to a free and appropriate education.

  • The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) provides funding and other resources for disabled students who need it most. It serves about 15% of the K-12 student population.

  • This law, along with other programs managed by the DOE, helps our most vulnerable students thrive. All of it—and the future of our country—is being put at risk by these petty tyrants in D.C.

There’s a reason that nearly 600,000 people took action. We’re fed up.

John, we’re doing everything we can to fight back, take matters into our own hands, and build new systems that make our liberation inevitable.
