You weren’t imagining it. June was the hottest month in recorded human history — by 0.1 degrees Celsius. Now, that might not sound like a crisis, until you learn that the previous record was set in June 2016. When we’re breaking warming records every few years, there’s a huge problem.
There’s another thing that’s important to note about this type of warming. Scientists also noted that the increased temperature isn’t the only problem — right now, because of changes in the climate, the heatwave Europe is currently experiencing is five times likelier to occur than in previous years.
The climate crisis isn’t just gradually raising the global temperature. It’s also making natural disasters and catastrophes more likely to occur in any given year. That’s why we need to take action, before we cross the threshold in 11 years.
The climate crisis is already here. We are the first generation to experience its effects — and we’ll be the last to be able to do anything to prevent it’s full effects.
