Wise Words

What to Know: TPPF’s own Richard Johnson appeared on ESPN Radio in Houston to discuss the challenges we all face in the aftermath of the death of George Floyd.

“The pain that’s out there is real and we have to take it seriously,” Richard says. “When American institutions and American communities are alienated from one another, America does not work. Creating that connection, the unity of one, is the greatness of our nation.”

Confidence in our Elections

What to Know: The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals says that Texas’s rules for voting by mail aren’t discriminatory, and should stand.

The TPPF Take: Your right to vote means nothing if your vote doesn’t count because of election fraud.

“The most fundamental feature of a representative democracy is the citizen’s right to vote,” says TPPF’s Quico Canseco. “It is key to the basic structure of our government which guarantees the rule of law, popular sovereignty, and individual freedom. It could not be better said than the Fifth Circuit Justice Ho’s statement that the right to vote means nothing if your vote doesn’t count.”

Recovery on the Horizon

What to Know: The May jobs report—which economists have questioned because of how it classifies some of the unemployed—is cause for both caution and optimism, Yahoo Finance says.

The TPPF Take: The data is clear—we’re heading in the right direction.

“The Bureau of Labor Statistics numbers aren’t cooked,” says TPPF’s Vance Ginn. “The data shows an improving labor market as states phase out their forced shutdowns of economies. We can expect red states, with more pro-growth policies, to recover faster.”
