John –
On Thursday, House Republicans passed their budget reconciliation framework. It directs House committees to slash $1.5 trillion from critical programs.
Since Republicans are never going to make billionaires pay a fair share of taxes – they actually plan on extending billionaire tax cuts and sticking the rest of us with the bill– it's an easy guess as to how they'll make the numbers "work": by slashing critical services like Medicaid, SNAP, housing assistance, clean energy investments, and much more.
Every Midwest Republican who voted for the budget framework aided and abetted a chaotic, harmful, and economically devastating policy (and to make matters worse: the budget rule weakens Congress's ability to regulate Trump's reckless tariffs that are price-gouging folks everywhere). It's urgent that we hold them accountable and keep up the pressure in advance of a vote on the full budget.
We need to put Republicans on the record – are you going to support a budget that cuts your constituents' healthcare and food access? There's a long way to go still in this fight, and we can stop this monstrosity of a budget plan from becoming a reality.
Over the coming weeks, Midwest Majority PAC plans to highlight where vulnerable Republicans in Iowa, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Nebraska stand – and turn up the heat to make them grow a spine. Can you pitch in to help us raise $2,000 and jump-start these efforts?
More soon,
