I just stepped off the stage at the City Club of Cleveland, where I laid out my vision for a New Economic Patriotism versus Trump and Vance’s New Gilded Age.

Trump and Vance have 19th-century policies that resulted in the Great Depression; they need a 21st-century understanding of the economy. 

Vance wants to slash Medicaid, veterans’ benefits, food stamps, and education to pay for even more giveaways. He’s ripping away the means of living – a final insult – from the very factory towns where good jobs were already shipped overseas. 

We need a Marshall Plan for America, fusing Silicon Valley innovation with the industrial might that built our country. That includes a White House Economic Development Council that will drive economic growth in every Congressional district and advocate for modern empowerment zones, worker ownership, and massive investments in jobs and education.

We’re at a fork in the road. An unholy alliance between wealth and power has deepened inequality, shattering communities and leaving millions behind. Either the nation will continue to succumb to a politics of division or galvanize around a shared vision of economic prosperity.
