A Los Angeles Police Department spokesman said the shootings were under investigation, but couldn’t say whether the incidents, which took place within a mile of each other in the Green Meadows area, were related. Neither the city police department nor the county medical examiner’s office would identify the victims. On Friday, officers responded around 7:30 p.m. to the 700 block of East 108th Street, where a teenage girl was shot, according to LAPD Officer Tony Im. Emergency dispatch recordings describe the girl — who was listed by police as approximately 13 years old — was shot in the head while inside her home. Police dispatchers directing officers to the incident said at least six shots were reported, and there were “males and females yelling,” according to Broadcastify.com. Additional police were summoned to help deal with a large group gathered on the street outside the house. The girl was hospitalized in critical condition but died Sunday, Im said. He said no one had been arrested, and it was not known if the shooting was gang-related. On Saturday afternoon, a woman was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the 10200 block of South San Pedro Street, Im said. The woman, described as approximately 31 years old, was pronounced dead at the hospital, Im said. Los Angeles Times Young parents in comas after wrong-way crash that killed their 6-month-old Young parents are in the hospital with serious injuries, their infant son dead after a head-on crash with a wrong-way driver in a stolen car. The deadly crash happened on Monday, around 11:30 p.m. on the 4600 block of South Western Avenue. Stephanie Jarqueen, 22, and Anthony Lozano, 20, picked up their 6-month-old baby Josiah from a babysitter after work moments before the crash, the family told FOX 11. "They were just starting their life with their new baby," said Nathalia Alfaro, Jarqueen's cousin. "He was only 6 months old. It’s truly sad how life unfolds." Surveillance video shows the stolen white sedan speeding "like a missile," as one witness said, before it veered into oncoming lanes, crashing into the couple and their baby in a black vehicle. Witnesses say the stolen white car was likely going around 100 mph. Baby Josiah was killed in the crash. Authorities say the driver of the stolen white car also died. The young couple was rushed from the scene by ambulance to the hospital with serious injuries. FOX 11 Mother accused of drowning 7-year-old daughter in Van Nuys, LAPD says A mother is in custody after allegedly drowning her 7-year-old daughter at a Van Nuys apartment Friday, police said. The incident happened around 5:40 p.m. at the 6800 block of Sepulveda Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The girl was found unresponsive in the bathtub and was later declared dead at the scene. The suspect, 37-year-old Graciela Castellanos, was arrested and booked into jail. Her bail was set at $2 million. No further information was immediately available. ABC 7 5 people stabbed in Reseda, 3 of them in serious condition Five people were stabbed in Reseda Saturday afternoon, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. According to LAPD, the stabbing suspect is in custody. Officers responded to the 6600 block of North Darby Avenue at around 4 p.m. The incident occurred at an apartment complex on the corner of Kittridge Street and Etiwanda Avenue. Three of the victims were described as a 35-year-old man, a 30-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man. The 25-year-old was stabbed in the neck, LAPD said. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, all five victims were transported to the hospital. Two of the victims were transported in fair condition. The other three victims were in serious to critical conditions, the LAFD said. NBC 4 29-year-old man severely injured in Koreatown hit-and-run crash Police are searching for the hit-and-run driver who left a man severely injured in L.A.’s Koreatown neighborhood. The crash occurred on Dec. 22, 2024, as the victim was crossing Catalina Street near Wilshire Boulevard at around 2:35 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department. As the victim jogged across the road quickly, a white sedan traveling northbound on Catalina Street struck him and continued speeding away. The victim, identified only as a 29-year-old man, was transported by paramedics to the hospital in severe condition. On April 10, LAPD released surveillance footage of the hit-and-run crash. Police described the suspect’s vehicle as a newer-model white sedan. “Motorists are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves,” LAPD said. “The public is also reminded that pedestrians must obey all traffic laws and cross the street when it is safe to do so.” KTLA 5 At Least One Person Stabbed in Westlake Area At least one person was stabbed Monday in the Westlake area of Los Angeles. The stabbing was reported at 1:35 a.m. at 721 S. Westlake Ave., Los Angeles Police Department Officer Norma Eisenman told City News Service. The suspects were described as a woman and two men in a black sedan that was last seen northbound on Alvarado Street, Eisenman said. All victims had stable vital signs, she said. A news videographer at the scene said there were three stabbing victims and that robbery may have been the motive. MyNewsLA Cannabis, cash stolen in smash-and-grab at North Hollywood dispensary A cannabis dispensary in North Hollywood fell victim to a smash-and-grab robbery early Monday morning. The business, located on Hartland Street near the intersection of Tujunga Avenue and Vanowen Street, was robbed around 4 a.m., according to preliminary information. Video from the scene shows the front entryway to the location was severely damaged. A broken jar on the street left a large quantity of marijuana flower next to the curb in front of the dispensary. Police officers were seen speaking with the business owner, who told KTLA that cannabis products and cash were taken from their business, but they did not comment on exactly how much was lost. A Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson confirmed to KTLA that officers conducted a building search and found a smashed window but no suspects. “Surveillance video [showed] two males wearing masks took merchandise from the store, loaded it into a white sedan and drove off,” the spokesperson said. KTLA 5 Inmate Runs Away from ReEntry Program in LA Authorities are continuing their search Sunday for an incarcerated man who removed his GPS device and walked away from a Male Community Reentry Program in Los Angeles. Officials were alerted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday that Dijon Barber, 32, had removed his tracking device, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation officials said. He was described as 6 feet tall, about 240 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black-and-brown hoodie, black sweats and black sandals. Barber was sentenced to four years for first-degree robbery, theft/embezzlement from elder/dependent adult and grand theft of a person. Anyone who sees Barber or has information on his whereabouts was asked to call 911, or Special Agent Rene Ramos at 909-322-8197. MyNewsLA Union: 2 Colorado officers severely wounded in ambush were shot in head by suspect out on bond for 3 felonies Two of the police officers who were critically injured in an ambush shooting were shot in the head with an AR-15 rifle, according to a letter sent by the Colorado Association of Chiefs of Police to Gov. Jared Polis and state lawmakers, The Pueblo Chieftain reported. The letter reveals new details in the shooting, including that the two most seriously injured officers were shot in the head, according to the report. A third officer was also wounded. All three were hospitalized, with the two officers who suffered head wounds now discharged. The third officer was expected to be released by April 12. The suspect, who was out on bond in three separate felony cases despite 14 prior felony arrests, was killed by return fire from officers, according to the report. The incident remains under investigation by the 10th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team, led by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. CACP officials wrote that the first officer was ambushed while sitting in his vehicle. As additional officers arrived, the suspect fired nearly 80 rounds from the rifle, according to the letter. Pueblo police spokesperson Bianca Hicks said the officers’ survival came down to chance, noting that slight changes in bullet trajectory could have resulted in fatalities. PoliceOne Woman gets 12 years in prison for shooting up Connecticut PD lobby A Connecticut woman was sentenced Tuesday to 12 years in prison for firing a gun several times in the lobby of a police department, where an officer fired back but bulletproof glass prevented anyone from getting hurt. Suzanne Laprise walked into the Bristol police department in October 2023 distraught, under the influence of alcohol and carrying a 9 mm pistol, police said. She fired three shots at the windows of the front desk and two more at an interior door, which officers were standing behind as they tried to talk with her. An officer fired two shots at Laprise from behind the door, but its glass windows also were bulletproof, police said. After Laprise put her gun down, officers rushed into the lobby, shot her with a Taser and took her into custody. Laprise, of nearby Plainville, appeared briefly in New Britain Superior Court on Tuesday, when a judge imposed the prison sentence she agreed to when she pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree assault in February. She was initially charged with attempted murder and other crimes. Associated Press Public Safety News Woman injured in Koreatown apartment fire A woman was injured when a fire broke out at an apartment building in Koreatown on Sunday afternoon. The blaze was first reported just before 1:10 p.m. in the 150 block of N. New Hampshire Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Crews were able to quickly contain the fire, which was extinguished in just over 30 minutes. They held the fire within a single unit on the fourth floor of the five-story building, according to a press release. The injured woman declined medical transport for injuries suffered in the fire. The nature of those injuries was not disclosed. An arson suspect was briefly detained at the scene, but Los Angeles Police Department officers said that they did not make any arrests in connection with the cause of the fire, which remains under investigation. CBS 2 L.A. County considers doubling penalties in street takeover crackdown The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors will consider tougher civil penalties for people participating in and watching illegal street takeovers during a meeting scheduled for Tuesday. The recommendation submitted by Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell calls for an increase in misdemeanor fines from $500 to $1,000 for those who “organize or knowingly encourage, promote, instigate, assist, facilitate, aid, or abet” illegal takeover events, the agenda for the meeting states. The proposal would also expand the ordinance beyond public highways to include off-street parking areas and facilitate “removing posts and demonetizing profiles that promote illegal sideshows on major social media platforms.” The goal of the proposal is to crack down on dangerous events before they start. In September, three vehicles trying to start a street takeover crashed into a Metro bus in L.A.’s Vermont Vista neighborhood.
