U.S. Senate Republicans are so determined to cut taxes for the rich that they're willing to pay for it by slashing essential services and safety net programs, like Medicaid and food assistance.
And they've even admitted that they're willing to break Senate rules to do so. Here's how:
Following typical budget rules, if Senate Republicans wanted to cut taxes by more than $5 trillion over the next decade, they would have to find long-term spending cuts that cover the cost of that plan. So to get around that rule, they asked the Senate Budget Committee — chaired by Republican Lindsey Graham — to provide a false estimate claiming that their tax cuts will only cost $1.5 trillion. This is blatant corruption, John.
