I remember the day I first found out about THL. It was 2010, and I’d been asking around for small, effective groups where a modest donation would make a big difference. Two people I knew recommended The Humane League, a small group of activists with a plan to make a world-changing impact for animals.
I didn’t know then what THL would grow to become. But looking back, that donation is one of the things I’m most proud of in my entire life.
As a member of the Board of Directors since 2015, I’ve always admired THL’s staff. Over the last three months, I’ve had the privilege of working among them, and I’ve gained a new appreciation for how special this organization really is. We have veterinarians, policy experts, and professionals of all stripes dedicating their careers to ending factory farming. We have folks calmly negotiating face-to-face with corporate executives. We have advocates in countries and timezones across the world, working day in and day out to drive this dark age for animals closer to its inevitable end.
And we have an ever-increasing number of kindhearted people like you—gathering by our side, adding your voice, and offering your support to this call for justice for animals.
Your generosity is what inspired me to give today. Consider this: Over 90% of THL’s donors give an average gift of $22 a year. With that groundswell of compassion and generosity, we’ve fundamentally transformed the business practices of an industry that churns through billions of dollars. And we aren’t done yet.
Years ago, I made an early donation to THL. But it's not too late for you to make an early donation, too. This fight is far from over. One day, our vision—a vision for a world where every animal is treated as a living, feeling being, free from human exploitation—will be realized. But that world can only come to pass if we create the conditions for it to exist right now.
I believe we will succeed. Today, on the 20th anniversary of The Humane League, I hope you’ll join me in reaffirming that belief.
Thanks for celebrating this day with us.
For the animals—yesterday, today, and tomorrow,
