For far too long, Donald Trump has spread hurtful, dangerous lies about immigrants — calling them “rapists,” “killers,” “vermin,” and “animals.” His words aren’t just offensive. They’re putting lives at risk.

In reality, immigrants contribute more than $3 trillion to our economy every year and pay over $500 billion in taxes, even though they don’t get benefits like Social Security. Despite all of this, Trump continues to demonize them. And what’s worse, too many faith leaders across the country have echoed his lies instead of standing up for the core values of faith: protecting the persecuted and welcoming the stranger.

As the Trump administration continues to defy court orders, detain immigrants with valid visas, and even imprison U.S. citizens, we need faith leaders to do what they’ve always done: tell the truth. They have the power to educate their congregations and reject the harmful rhetoric that’s tearing this country apart.
