Point blank, we need new leaders in Washington who will call out the BS

Friend,

Point blank, we need new leaders in Washington who will call out the bullshit.

I’m going to share more about why I’m running. But before I do, if you’re like me and are done with the BS coming from Washington, please split a gift between our campaign and iVote Fund now.

Now I want to tell you a story. I never thought I’d be in politics. But after the 2016 election, like a lot of us, I was fed up. Politics should be about service, not self-interest. And not building up your own power by tearing others down. So I googled “how to run for office".

Seriously.

I took on a state Senate race in Michigan no one thought we could win. I took on an incumbent state Senator who refused to do anything about the epidemic of gun violence, who sided with corporate polluters over protecting our clean water, and who didn’t represent us.

Democrats and Republicans counted me out because I was young. Because I had never run for office before. Because it “wasn’t my turn". But with the help of over 500(!) local volunteers, I swung a Republican-held state Senate seat 20 points and flipped a district that included Mitt Romney’s hometown. That victory sent me to the Michigan State Senate.

My approach in the Michigan State Senate is the same approach I’ll take in the U.S. Senate: no bullshit.

The system is broken and we should call it out. I’m a millennial. On the whole, we’re the first generation to do worse than our parents. For millions of people, it can feel like you’ve done everything right — working hard in school, going to college or earning a skill or trade, taking on one job, then a side-hustle, then a gig, building your entire life around work and still barely getting by. It’s impossible to buy a house. It’s too expensive to start a family. We look at our parents and wonder where it all went wrong? The American Dream feels like a distant past.

Democratic messaging usually sounds something like this: “Democrats are fighting to help you put food on the table.”

Oy. Now look, of course that’s true, but that vision isn’t big enough. No one aspires to just get by. We need to think bigger, dream bigger, and lay out a vision for the New American Dream that people can see themselves in, something they want to vote for.

Because being against Donald Trump is simply not enough.

It’s about a Michigan where you know you’ll have a tight-knit vibrant community, where you’ll have restaurants, small businesses, and places to go. It’s about creating a future where if you work hard, you will be able to afford the life you dreamed of — to start a family, to buy that house, rent where you want, have the car you want, have a fulfilling career, and yes — maybe even have that little place Up North because you can afford a vacation and time away to reset. And still put money away for retirement, savings, or a college or house fund for your kids.

Democrats have to get real. The status quo simply wasn’t working. But while Donald Trump and Elon Musk want to burn it all to the ground, we have to build something new. Something that actually works. For everyone.

I’m fed up with Democrats in DC who have completely missed how much people were struggling. I’m fed up with the part of “Well, actually.” When we told our party leaders that groceries and gas were too expensive, that people were struggling to find the job they really wanted, that they felt stretched too thin, what did Democrats do? Told them the economy was doing great, actually.

So yes, even if the decisions made by our leaders staved off the worst of a recession, people were still hurting. And we need to listen to them.

Voters know BS. I’ve called BS out in the State Senate and that’s what I’ll do as U.S. Senator.

If you’re done with the same old nonsense, split a donation between iVote Fund campaign and ours, and send a message to DC.

Right now, we’re at a crossroads. Donald Trump and Elon Musk are trying to overwhelm us. That’s their plan; they want us to feel powerless. But we are not powerless.

The reality is there’s a lot in common between this moment today and that moment in 2016 when I googled how to run for office. But what that means is that we know exactly how to rise to this moment.

This is not a moment for weakness. This is the time to put our heads down and get to work. That’s why I’m running for U.S. Senate. This moment, and what happens next, is on all of us. I will never try to convince you that I have all the answers. Just voting for the right person isn’t going to fix everything. But together, I know we can show Michigan — and the rest of the country — how powerful we really are. Let’s create the future we want to see, together.

So please join me in building that future: make a contribution of whatever you can, split between our campaign and iVote Fund to become a founding donor of my campaign for U.S. Senate.

Thank you,

Mallory

iVote was created in 2014 with one goal: secure voting rights for all Americans.

Rather than take on challenges in the court after unfair laws have passed, iVote plays defense on voter suppression efforts AND goes on offense to secure and expand access to voting.

Going on offense is critical. We have the chance to elect Secretaries of State that will protect our elections for years to come. But Republicans are already suppressing and blocking certain citizens from exercising their fundamental right to vote.

DONATE

We need a massive coalition to register new voters and protect our right to vote in this election and beyond.

We know you get a lot of emails, but it's only because this fight is so important. We need you to stick with us long term. But if you must go, you can unsubscribe.
