Dear John,

In this week's newsletter, advocating for affordable housing for Illinois' 16th Congressional District, urging U.S. leadership in technology, and working to reform the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program. If you need help with federal agencies, please reach out to one of my offices listed at the bottom of the newsletter.

Extending the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act

The 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act created the best economy of my lifetime. If we let many of these tax cuts expire, hardworking Americans will face the consequences.

Congress must extend these to allow American businesses to gro
w and invest and families to thrive.

The U.S. Must be the Leader in Digital Trade

The Biden Administration’s failure to stand up for strong digital trade policies allowed the CCP and others to exploit markets and manipulate global standards.

Thankfully, we have an opportunity to restore U.S. leadership in digital trade and counter discriminatory practices impacting U.S. innovation.

Expanding Affordable Housing

The lack of affordable housing across Illinois' 16th Congressional District is stifling economic growth and stretching families’ budgets thin.

I was proud to reintroduce the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act alongside Representative DelBene and a bipartisan group of colleagues to help tackle this crisis.

Reforming the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Program

The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program hasn't been reauthorized by Congress since 2005.

I chaired a Ways and Means Work and Welfare Subcommittee hearing on the need for Congress to modernize TANF to protect against fraud and ensure the program is assisting vulnerable families and individuals in need.

Urging Global Leadership in Technology Development

America’s global innovation leadership matters. The Chinese Communist Party is actively working to replace the United States and the sooner we wake up to that, the better.

It is critical that the United States creates new tools to curb investment in Chinese tech sectors and prevent U.S. capital from being used to embolden the CCP.

The House Select Committee on China held a hearing focused on the risks posed to Americans' investments and the urgent need for Americans to safeguard their retirement savings against the volatile and predatory actions of the CCP.

One More Thing: Passing the SAVE Act

Only American citizens should be voting in our elections. I was proud to support the SAVE Act to restore faith in federal elections.

In cities like Chicago, where Mayor Johnson doubles down on failed sanctuary city policies, we must ensure that only American citizens vote in U.S. elections.

It is a privilege to serve the constituents of Illinois' 16th Congressional District. Thank you for subscribing to my newsletter. Please do not hesitate to reach out to one of my offices if we can ever be of assistance.

Sincerely,

Darin LaHood
Member of Congress
