Thank you for your feedback [link removed] DearJohn, Right now, millions of older Americans are struggling during the coronavirus pandemic. Yet, instead of working to shore up Social Security at a time when retirees, survivors and people with disabilities are counting on their benefits just to survive, there are some politicians in Washington who are using the crisis as an opportunity to unleash an agenda to outright destroy this program.
That's why we recently asked our supporters to answer our "Survey on Social Security and the Coronavirus Response." And we're so grateful for the overwhelming response we received! As an important supporter of the National Committee's work, I want to share the key findings with you right away:
70% of respondents said they oppose a new scheme that would give Americans the option of forfeiting a portion of their future Social Security benefits for cash payments to pay for food and housing now.
Almost 88% of survey takers said they reject the President's call to cut or defer employee and payroll taxes, which would reduce revenue going into Social Security.
About 92% of respondents answered "No" when asked if they support the "TRUST Act," which would create a so-called "Rescue Committee" for Social Security and set up a fast track process that could easily lead to severe cuts to the program.
More than 92% said they believe now is a good time to pass the "Social Security 2100 Act," which would boost earned benefits and strengthen Social Security's long-term solvency.
A resounding 96% of respondents said they oppose the use of Social Security funds to pay for other fiscal priorities. We'll use your thoughtful feedback to insist that decision makers in Washington take note of where their constituents stand on proposals that could impact the future of Social Security. In this time of unprecedented crisis — and in this critical election year — your voice matters more than ever.
So please consider making one important gift today [link removed] to help the National Committee fight against mounting threats to earned
benefits. Millions of older Americans are facing serious health- and
financially-related hardships stemming from the coronavirus crisis and they
can't afford any cuts to Social Security now or in the future!
Thank you again for your loyal partnership.
Sincerely, Dan Adcock
