Until this week, the American people were set to see the highest tax hike in history when President Trump’s landmark Tax Cuts and Jobs Act expired in December.
Not only did House Republicans take a major step to prevent this from happening, but we also paved the way for President Trump’s full agenda to be enacted, which is exactly what Georgians demanded when we sent him back to Washington in November.
President Biden drove this country into a ditch. Record inflation, sky-high interest rates, an unsecure southern border, turmoil abroad, runaway government spending, and American energy weakness defined the last four years, and we are still reeling from their consequences. President Trump inherited a mess, and we are clawing this nation back to the prosperity we had during his first term, when inflation was low, the border was secure, and our nation was energy independent. That’s why it is not just important, but critical that we deliver one big, beautiful bill that will put the United States back on track and reestablish the American Dream.
I’m proud to say that we in Congress are getting this done. On Thursday, we passed the budget blueprint, which unlocks the ability for Congress to find savings and direct funding towards President Trump’s mandate.
In this bill are instructions for Congress to identify $1.5 trillion in savings, which I submit can be accomplished by identifying waste, fraud, and abuse, eliminating duplicative programs, and making our government more efficient. We are also going to direct funding towards our southern border, ensuring those brave law enforcement agents have the tools they need to keep us safe. On top of that, we will prioritize unleashing American energy dominance and extending the Trump Tax Cuts, which puts another $1,500 back in the average Georgia families’ pocket.
Oh, and Biden’s woke DEI and Green New Deal initiatives? Consider them dead in the water.
After four years of spineless leadership, it is refreshing to have an administration with a plan and a vision. Last week, we saw a better-than-expected jobs report. This week, CPI, which is a measure of inflation, exceeded expectations as well. Energy prices as down 20% since President Trump took office, and we have nations lining up to make better trade deals that will benefit the American worker. Trump’s economic plan is working, and this one big, beautiful bill will only increase his ability to Make America Great Once Again. Contrast this with the Washington Democrat party, which has no leader, no vision, and no message, and it is crystal clear that We, the People sent the right person back to D.C. to fight against the bureaucracy and defend hardworking Americans. This is our opportunity to deliver what will be one of the most consequential pieces of legislation in our nation’s history, and I pledge to you that House Republicans are united and ready to meet the moment.
It truly is a new day in America.

Monday, April 7, 2025: It was a pleasure on Saturday to be in Thunderbolt in Chatham County for their annual Blessing of the Fleet. I was honored to help kick off the weekend event by participating in the parade and enjoying the live music and great vendors lining the street. Yesterday, I joined in on a GOP Conference call to discuss the Senate budget reconciliation bill that failed last week and that we will vote on again this week. After the GOP call, we had a House Budget Committee Conference call to discuss the proposal as well. After an early morning flight to Washington, I head straight to the House Chamber where I pay tribute to the Jekyll Island and Sea Island Resorts for being named in the top resorts in the South, Ms. Wilkes Dining Room for being named one of Southern Living’s bucket list, Georgia Safari in Madison, Georgia, for being named one of Times World’s best places of 2025, and St. Simons, Jekyll, and Tybee Islands for being named 3 of the top 5 best beach towns in the South. Once in our office, I have a conference call with our communications consultant before meeting with the National Rural Education Association (NREA), a group that promotes the interests of schools and educators in rural and sparsely populated areas. After meeting with David Galardi with Payd Health, a company that offers alternative funding and financial case management services for specialty drugs, I have a meeting with our scheduling staff before having a virtual interview with WSB-TV in Atlanta to discuss tariffs and the budget reconciliation vote. Next, I have meetings with our legislative staff followed by our weekly meeting of the Energy and Commerce (E&C) Health Subcommittee staff before heading off Capitol Hill to speak to the American College of Surgeons who are in town for their annual meeting. Once back in our office, I film a video highlighting the importance of the Congressional App Challenge and then head to our weekly Whip Team meeting before heading to the House Chamber for our first vote series of the week. After the vote series, I lead my colleagues in the House in a moment of silence in honor of the four Fort Stewart heroes who were tragically killed during a training exercise in Lithuania last week. Later, I remain in the Chamber and pay tribute to former University of Georgia golfer Russell Hendly for his recent victory in the Arnold Palmer Classic on the PGA tour.

Tuesday, April 8, 2025: I’m up early and live on Mornings with Maria on Fox Business as we discuss the budget reconciliation bill and tariffs before heading to the White House to assist some constituents for a tour. Once back at the Capitol, I head to a Meet the Cabinet series where we have as our guest today one of our former colleagues in the House, Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy. After our weekly GOP Conference meeting, I head to an E&C full Committee markup where we are scheduled to consider over 20 bills. During the markup I am able to meet with RYAM, a global leader in the production of cellulose-based products. Unfortunately, we are unable to finish all of our scheduled bills before votes are called and we will need to finish the others at another time. After heading to the House Chamber for our first and only vote series of the day, I head back to our office where I meet with the CEO of Daniel Defense, Rod Reason, and then head off Capitol Hill to meet with the Independent Pharmacy Cooperative (IPC) board members. Next, I head to a reception for support in Congress for American-made Ready to Use Therapeutic Food (RUFT) before heading back to our office for a meeting with the former CEO of Safeway.

After meetings with Aeroflow Health, a leading health solutions provider, Novovax, a global biotechnology company, and the Athletic Director of Georgia Tech, J Batt, I head to a meeting of the E&C Committee to discuss budget reconciliation. Next, I meet with my good friends at Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) including Jamie McCurry, before heading to the House Chamber for our first vote series of the day. Once back in our office, I meet with my good friends, University of Georgia President Jere Morehead, and Athletic Director Josh Brooks, who bring with them a group of UGA coaches and student athletes. Arthur Blank made a huge impact on Georgia. After co-founding Home Depot in Atlanta in 1979, he retired in 2001 and bought the Atlanta Falcons in 2002 for $545 million. Under his leadership, the team saw its first back-to-back winning seasons in 2009. Blank helped put Georgia on the map in both business and football.
