John, We wanted to give you a quick update on House Republicans’ latest attempt to disenfranchise millions of voters: FIRST: Republicans introduced the SAVE Act — an extreme, anti-voter bill that would make it significantly harder, if not outright impossible, for certain eligible voters to register to vote and have their voices heard. THEN: As the bill made its way through committee, Donald Trump signed an executive order pushing a set of unconstitutional voter restrictions, including mass voter purges. NOW: The GOP-controlled House of Representatives has passed the SAVE Act and sent it to the Senate. The NDRC is fighting back to protect voting rights and safeguard our democracy, but we need grassroots support from people like you.
Here’s just a snapshot of what the SAVE Act would do: ❌ Require voters to provide very specific documents (like an original birth certificate) any time they update their registration. An estimated 21 million Americans don’t have easy access to this documentation — especially military voters, tribal voters, rural voters, survivors of natural disasters, and millions of married women who have changed their last names. Coupled with Trump’s executive order that mandates burdensome proof of citizenship, mass voter purges, and weaponizes the Department of Justice to verify immigration status, it’s clear: Anti-democracy extremists want to silence millions of voters. But we’re fighting back. From Florida to Ohio, the fair maps movement is mobilizing to stop extremists from rigging the system in their favor. We’re using every tool at our disposal to prevent or minimize their damage to voting rights and our democracy. But we need your help. Thank you so much, The NDRC Team
