Contrary to the pretentious fantasy of President Trump and his gaggle of economically illiterate advisors, it is not other nations that are responsible for America’s economic-cultural ruin, or the stagnation and general collapse of western economies. Rather, it is the City of London/IMF/Wall Street's criminal and hideous policy of runaway speculative activity which is responsible.

As physical economist Lyndon LaRouche said decades ago:

What is collapsing today, is not an economy, but a vast financial bubble, a bubble whose chief economic expression is the U.S. financial system’s role as ‘The Importer of Last Resort’ for the world at large…. In effect, the world has been supporting, until about now, a vast U.S. dollar-denominated financial bubble, all largely for the purpose of propping up an inflated, intrinsically bankrupt U.S. economy’s role as ‘importer of last resort’ for much of the world. What happens when that financial bubble moves into its inevitable chain-reaction-collapse phase? That is what is happening now.

LaRouche’s prophetic words, written nearly 25 years ago, identify the actual cause of the collapse of U.S. industry over the past five decades, and what is a common threat to human life everywhere on the planet.

Advancement requires an enhancing of the productive powers of labor, where an increasing number of human beings are provided the means to master new, more efficient scientific-technological discoveries and practically apply them, unceasingly. The assimilation of this and other vital concepts of physical production, such as energy flux density, are required for true progress to occur. Economist LaRouche premised his own economic and philosophical ideas upon these principles which allow humankind to lawfully subdue and overcome nature. Today these are life-preserving, urgent and of great necessity. This is the pathway by which human society can avoid nuclear conflicts, and moreover, construct a durable peace through economic development, scientific-technological cooperation among the strategically important nations of the world, particularly, Russia, the US and China.

Addressing the disastrous course of the “America First” tariff fiasco, Schiller Institute leader Helga Zepp-LaRouche offers a Schillerian-style remedy which was elaborated in dialogue with Ambassador Jack Matlock, the last US Ambassador to the Soviet Union:

Let’s say Trump wants to undo globalization; there could be some arguments made that there is a legitimate [cause] for doing so, because the globalization as it has developed over the last decades has made some more rich people, more millionaires, more billionaires, and many, many more poor all over the world. So a correction of this system is desirable…

But my biggest concern is that you can’t just bully people all over the world, pushing people. It may be Trump’s famous style, but I think the proper way to have done it would have been to call for a big international conference, like a New Bretton Woods conference, and discuss the principles of how this reorganization should be done. And then put the details to a taskforce and expert groups and work it all out in a goodwill cooperation.
