John —
Thursday night, I joined a CNN town hall and took questions from audience members and Americans around the country.

I know how important it is that elected leaders show up, answer tough questions, and show accountability to their voters. And I answered questions to show you how I am working to hold this administration accountable.
Your support helps me continue to show up in our district and speak out against harmful policies from the Trump administration and Republicans in Congress. Will you pitch in to support my work and help me continue to show up in the community?
I took a question about the cuts to the Department of Education — a question that is deeply important to me as a former educator and parent of a school-age child.
My Republican colleagues on stage want you to believe the cuts to the Department of Education are about empowering states to act.
But I know that the Department of Education protects the civil rights of students, and one of the most fundamental things they do is to ensure that students with special needs are protected and have what they need.
I believe in public education. 49 million children in this country rely on public education. Title I funding comes from the Department of Education. The kids who will be most hurt are kids in poor, low-income, rural, and tribal communities. This narrative that anything is being taken away from the states is just wrong.
While Republicans portray a false narrative about funding for our schools, I am loudly speaking out in support of kids around the country who need and deserve well-funded schools.
As the GOP masks the truth, I will always speak up and make sure voters know what is truly happening. Your support empowers me to continue doing that — please pitch in today.
