Dear John,
I don’t want to cause undue alarm, but I need to warn you: Donald Trump has launched the most sweeping assault on the U.S. Constitution in my lifetime.
Trump is deporting legal U.S. residents with zero due process. He’s called for the impeachment of judges that rule against him. He’s silencing dissent by attacking universities, law firms, and news outlets that dare to criticize him.
It’s all straight out of the fascist playbook.
The good news is that people are standing up to fight back. People are marching in the streets and flooding into town hall meetings. Trump’s disapproval ratings are skyrocketing. Even a few Republicans in Congress are starting to push back.
The team here at Inequality Media Civic Action is working day and night to educate the public, get the truth out, and mobilize grassroots support to stop Trump’s assault on our democracy. But we need to ramp it up, and as a grassroots-funded organization, we rely on your donations to propel everything we do.
Will you make a monthly donation to help educate the public, get the truth out, and stop Trump’s assault on our democracy?
In just the last few days, Donald Trump has significantly escalated what was already a terrifying assault on democracy and the rule of law.
On Thursday, the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously ruled that the Trump administration must facilitate the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland father who Trump’s own Justice Department admits was deported to El Salvador due to an “administrative error.”
(Let’s pause for a moment to consider how lawless Trump’s actions had to be for even Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito to rule against him?)
But instead of complying and taking action to save this poor man from the hellhole they dumped him into, the Trump administration is refusing to even disclose his location to the judge.
It’s horrific. But as dark as the news continues to be, there are reasons for hope.
Democrats are seeing a surge in candidates stepping forward to run for office.Trump pulled back some of his most destructive and nonsensical tariffs after a rebellion on Wall Street and in Congress. The Social Security Administration is walking back its DOGE-led, widely unpopular phone service cuts.
Here at Inequality Media Civic Action, we’re also seeing signs of resistance. Our views and engagement have shot upwards since Trump was sworn in, allowing us to reach millions of people beyond our core audience and break through to the broader public. On YouTube alone, the “watch time” of our videos is up a remarkable 10x from one year ago.
But facing Trump’s rapid descent into dictatorship, we need to do even more to warn the American people and mobilize them to take action — before it’s too late to stop him.
That’s why I’m asking you today: Will you make a monthly donation to help educate the public, get the truth out, and stop Trump’s assault on our democracy?
Thank you,
Robert Reich
