Skylar cried as she spoke into the phone and told the nurse her deepest fear:
“I don’t want to make the wrong decision, not being able to have a baby again, and the emotional and physical damage.”
This was Skylar’s first pregnancy. She had just told the father of the baby, and he advised her to abort — it just wasn’t the right time. He didn’t want to bring a baby into an environment where they would have to struggle to make ends meet.
Skylar didn’t know what to do.
After seeing our ad online, she ended up dialing the Human Coalition contact center and almost immediately talked with a nurse. She became interested in her options as she listened to all that the Continuum of Care program could assist her with. They could connect her with resources for needs like housing, essentials for her baby, employment assistance, and more. These were the very things that were causing her to think an abortion was necessary in the first place.
For the first time since the doctor told her she was pregnant, Skylar began to feel hopeful.
She was pursuing a degree in sonography. As she spoke with the social worker on the phone, she thought about what it would be like to perform ultrasounds for other expecting moms while never knowing what her baby could have become. How would she be able to handle that? Her decision now could become a daily regret...
Skylar soon had her own ultrasound appointment. Unfortunately, the baby was not visible, and Skylar and her boyfriend concluded that abortion was still the best option for them.
But thankfully, her story doesn't end there...
