TAKE ACTION:
Tell Mayor Bowser and the City Council to fund critical gun violence interventions in the new budget!
SEND THEM A MESSAGE NOW >>
John—Washington, DC is facing a gun violence crisis.
We're demanding that Mayor Bowser and the City Council make a substantial and long-term commitment to fund a comprehensive strategy that will help the communities most affected by gun violence. This includes violence intervention and prevention programs which are proven to drastically reduce gun violence in the District.
Black communities are disproportionately impacted by gun violence and we know that a comprehensive gun violence reduction strategy, including violence
intervention and prevention programs, will help save lives. The amount of money necessary for these programs is miniscule compared to the law enforcement and criminal justice costs associated with gun violence in the city.
The deadline to secure this funding in the upcoming budget is rapidly approaching, so city leaders need to hear from us now: Send a message to Mayor Bowser and the City Council urging them to prioritize gun safety in the city budget.
The District has one of the highest rates of gun homicides in the US, nearly three times the national rate. Firearms are the leading cause of death for children and teens in the District. And while Black residents account for 46 percent of DC's population, they account for approximately 96 percent of the city's gun homicide victims. Gun violence is a crisis in our city, and we can't wait any longer to take action.
Thanks for taking action!
